Search returns nothing

A few different situations can look like "search isn't working." Here's how to tell them apart.

The search box isn't there at all

Search is a Plus feature, turned off by default. Confirm Show a search box is turned on for that blog under the Design page's Search section, and that your plan is Plus or above.

The search box is there, but every query comes back empty

• Very short queries don't search. Fewer than two characters returns nothing by design, so try a longer term.
• The search index refreshes on the same schedule as tags. A very recently published article might not be searchable yet until the next crawl. See How tags are found, which covers the same background job.
• Search only checks the title, tags and a short excerpt, not the full article body. A term that only appears deep in an article's text won't match. See Blog search for exactly what's checked.

Submitting search lands on Shopify's own search page instead

This happens on themes where the filter couldn't be placed inline in the blog section, the same requirement covered in Theme compatibility. Where that support isn't there, or JavaScript is unavailable, search intentionally falls back to Shopify's normal site-wide search rather than failing outright. It's a graceful fallback, not an error, though it does mean the result is no longer scoped to just the one blog.
